Sometimes I waste it on wirts leg just for the memes and there is also way of obtaining low level duel items this way, but I don't have a good memory around imbuing rules to avoid bricking the item's lvl req. I would always aim to imbue high level circlet or whatever is the elite version. Especially fringe items like the eth war pike which barely anyone picks up and barely anyone wants, you can ask for a high price if a situation comes up (at some point I will be willing to buy ETH WP BOTD). Even less popular elite bases can be worth something if they roll ED (I did farm a long time back in 2012 to get a nice ward shield base for phoenix runeword that I wanted to playtest).
Finding one of the eth elite weapons with 15% ED can fetch a nice price. However, base items are always good to keep an eye out, especially if they have superior quality. Of course short term gain might be more desirable when racing, playing hard core or just having a relaxed playthrough. Monarch shield generally is the safe bet for easy value return as it's quite versatile item and I would generally not push to use larzuk on spirit weapon or insight, unless I know I have surplus of socket quest reward on my characters.
